Association Valetudo
The Association Valetudo was founded in 1995 at the initiative of Doctor Jean-Marc Boulon, who is responsible for Art and Music Therapy at the Maison de Saint Paul de Mausole. It is a non-profit organisation registered under French law 1901.

The name of the association is taken from the Goddess Valetudo. In Greco-roman times, pilgrims would seek out the source near to Glanum, where they prayed to her for good health.

Jointly managed by patients, staff, doctors and volunteers, the association aims to:
  • Promote and support the cultural development of the Maison de Santé de St Paul de Mausole
  • Offer complementary and preventative art and music therapies, including alternatives to hospitalisation
  • Support psychiatric research relating to art and music therapy
  • Collaborate with the projects of the Maison de Santé de St Paul
Each year, the Association Valetudo provides art and music therapy classes for out-patients of the Maison de Santé de St Paul at St Rémy de Provence. It is also responsible for the small museum commemorating Van Gogh's time at St Paul and a gallery which sells original artworks books and other items, to help fund the projects of the association.

The association has produced publications, organised external exhibitions, fundraising events and seminars. It also employs a full-time art therapist to work with the patients at St Paul. The art-therapy studio is situated in the old part of the building where Van Gogh himself once painted.
